The Maitland Trail Association is grateful for the $3,000 donation from the Goderich Lions Club. This is part of the Lions Club's continuing commitment to honour the memory and hard work of Lion John Grace, who passed away unexpectedly in 2022. John was passionate about environmental issues, so in keeping with this, the Maitland Trail Association will use the donation to help fund the removal of invasive species and the replanting of native plants in those areas. The Maitland Woods has been the recipient of this donation in the past and is again this year. For those interested, visit the Maitland Woods and see the wire baskets that protect the new plantings scattered around behind the Columbus Centre and the trail just off Huckins Street.
As this is a big project extending over a number of years, the Maitland Trail Association is also collaborating with the Invasive Species Centre, the Town of Goderich, and the Goderich Rotary Club.We are aiming to return the Maitland Woods to its original native silviculture.
