What do Caterpillars Eat?
Swallowtail caterpillars have a diverse diet, and can be found munching on a variety of different plants such as those in the parsley family, carrots, dill, fennel, Queen Anne's Lace, celery, and cumin. Not only do they consume the leaves of these plants, but also the flowers. The adult female butterfly is an expert at finding the perfect host plant to lay her eggs in. This is important, because if she chooses the wrong plant, the caterpillars will not eat, and they will die.
