30th Annual Candlelight Walk Breaks Attendance Record

The Maitland Trail Association celebrated a milestone with its 30th Annual Candlelight Walk through the Maitland Woods, drawing an exceptional crowd of over 600 participants despite the absence of snow.

"This year's walk was truly special," remarked Con Melady, who, alongside his wife Cindy Fisher, has orchestrated the event for three decades. "It's about more than fundraising; it's about bringing families together on a winter's night to embrace community, camaraderie, and the invaluable service of the Maitland Trail Association."

Located behind the Knights of Columbus Hall in Goderich, the Maitland Woods Trail took center stage, showcasing its unique beauty to all attendees. Melady also shared a video highlighting the process behind creating lantern shades crafted from recycled plastic bottles. [Watch Video]

In collaboration with Goderich Winterfest, the Candlelight Walk owes its success to the dedicated volunteers who contributed to every facet of the event, from setup to lantern-making workshops, a beverage & snack station, and post-event cleanup. Their efforts ensured an evening filled with outdoor warmth, fireside chats, and breathtaking art lantern displays.

Looking ahead, mark your calendars for the next Candlelight Walk, set to kick off Winterfest on February 7, 2025, promising another unforgettable evening of community spirit and natural splendor.
