TRAIL RE-OPENED ON AUGUST 27TH (EXCEPT FOR BLUE LOOP, WHICH IS THE HIGH WATER BYPASS LOOP - WHITE TRAIL IS OPEN)
Effective immediately, a section of the Maitland Trail between 20.6 km marker (Cherrydale) and 22.8 km marker (landowner property boundary) will be closed to the public.
Hikers coming from Sharpes Creek Line may travel to km marker 22.8 and then turn around (Do not hike on closed section of the trail.)
This closure is necessary due to an extremely high fire risk in this stretch of trail. The area contains a large amount of dry cedar wood and debris on the ground, creating conditions where even the smallest spark could ignite a serious fire.
Unfortunately, recent observations have shown cigarette butts discarded along the trail and unauthorized use of a fire pit. These activities present a significant danger, not only to the trail itself but also to the surrounding natural habitat and community.
Please remember:
No open flames of any kind are permitted on the Maitland Trail.
No smoking or cigarette use is allowed on the trail (or exercise extreme caution).
No campfires or fire pits are permitted at any time.
Your cooperation is critical in helping us protect forest, wildlife, private property and community safety.
Signs have been posted on the trail. We will post updates as soon as it is safe to reopen this section of trail.
Thank you for respecting the closure and helping us keep the Maitland Trail safe for everyone.
