2013 SPRING NEWSLETTER
El
Camino
Rio
Maitland:
HOW
TO
MAKE
2013
A
SUMMER
TO
REMEMBER
Most
hikers
have
heard
of
the
El
Camino
de
Santiago
de
Compostela
(The
Way
(route)
to
Saint
James
of
the
Field
of
Stars),
a
historical
religious
pilgrimage
to
the
north
coast
of
Spain,
that
today
is
undertaken
for
a
myriad
of
different
reasons.
Many
people
have
it
on
their
‘bucket
list’
and
quite
a
few
in
our
area
have
actually
walked
it.
The
latter
tend
to
be
enormously
enthusiastic
about
their
experience,
and
some
have
gone
back
to
do
it
again…maybe
following
a
different
route,
or
in
a
different
season.
We
have
decided
to
create
our
own
mini
version
–
El
Camino
de
Sinuoso
Rio
Maitland
(The
Way
of
the
Winding
Maitland
River)
or
for
short
(and
easier
remembering)
El
Camino
de
Rio
Maitland.
The
‘Way”
will
be
the
journey
from
Auburn
to
Goderich
along
the
entire
Maitland
Trail.
It
will
be
undertaken
on
the
weekend
of
June
22nd
--?
23rd.
As
occurs
in
the
‘real’
Camino,
it
will
also
be
possible
to
do
a
shorter
version
for
those
who
would
love
to
take
part,
but
who
would
like
a
gentler
challenge.
There
will
be
a
wonderful
dinner
on
the
Saturday
evening,
to
‘refuel’
hikers
for
the
next
half
of
their
journey,
to
swap
hiking
tales,
and
to
just
have
a
good
time!
Supporters
will
also
be
welcome
at
the
dinner.
The
MTA
will
be
providing
planning
information
and
support
for
the
hikers,
who
will
have
the
choice
to
travel
at
their
own
personal
pace
or
with
a
hike
leader.
Hikers
‘from
away’
will
find
several
options
for
their
overnight
stay
in
the
information
pack.
We
also
will
need
volunteers
to
look
after
3
checkpoints
along
the
route
on
both
days.
They
will
stamp
the
hiker's
passports,
give
encouragement
and
there
will
also
be
extra
water
available,
if
needed.
You
won’t
want
to
miss
this
exciting
event.
