George G. Newton Nature Reserve
Level 1 – easy to moderate.
Come and discover one of Huron County’s little hidden gems, the George G. Newton Nature Reserve. Perched upon a rolling moraine, experience a forested ravine, cut by a stream and old farm fields that have been replanted with white pine, cedar– and interspersed with mature maple, beech, hemlock, elm, ash, butternut and other hardwoods. We will visit remnants of an old dam where a gristmill once stood. Also be prepared for a lovely assortment of birds. There are no washrooms. As always, we recommend wearing long pants tucked in, water and snack, and carry bug repellent.
